Times flying by here at Poundlane and tomorrow morning after dropping the children to school I will be zooming over to Tavistock to get Dolly's and Ysobel's eyes tested. The two conditions Chris Warren will be looking for in Cavaliers are multifocal retinal dysplasia and hereditary cataract. Chris Warren is on the BVA/ISDS/KC eye panel and one of 30 vets in the UK that test under this eye testing for inherited diseases scheme for breeding dogs.
Both the eye conditions that Cavaliers are tested for are seen in all dog breeds but are seen in Cavaliers at a higher rate. Although this test can only tell you if your dog has the condition and not whether they will develop it or carry the genes to pass it to their offspring they have over time with breeders that use these tests reduced the occurance of these two eye conditions. Hopefully it won't be long before we have a gene test for both these eye conditions.
Keeping this a bit short tonight as my internet connection is going on and off like a whore's draws at the monent. Sorry if that offends any one but that best describes my internet connection over the last couple days, due to us living in a valley and it being very over cast at the moment. Its already gone off three times whilst trying to do this tonight and, back again, it just went again then, blue cloud above me now and pulling out of my hair about to start.
Dolly I'm pretty sure is in pups, as on palpation of her stomach at 21 days pregnant the characteristic bead of puppys can be felt like peas in a pod and she is booked to be scanned Friday morning (I'm going to look a bit red faced now if the scan confirms the opposite of what I think I've felt) and Millie is also booked into the vets that day to be spayed and her teeth cleaned (dental).
Now I'm going before my connection goes and leave you with a video of Jessica and Toby who are siblings. They where playing on the lawn madly but by the time I found the camera they had just stopped.
Now I'm going to quickly press publish and cross my fingers !
