Just looking up what is going on in the world and noticed this on the sidebar and then found the clip on YouTube, so I could load it up and show how ignorant people are that have extreme Brachycephalic dogs. So here is the video and beside is the description of it from YouTube.
Apparently the dog hates going out for walks and they think it is because he is lazy. No dog should hate going out for a walk. Unfortunately they seem oblivious to the fact that the dog is struggling to breath. Listen to the sound it makes, the tell tale rasp as they end the video, see that the dog had then stopped. They stopped filming then I bet, because that is where the poor dog could not go on any further without sitting down struggling to take in breath so he could walk on again. The dog is obese which is further more adding to the problem. Unfortunately it is the disabilities of these dogs that are one of the things that make them attractive, because they struggle to breath it makes them a very low energy dog, so they need little exercise and their disabilities also make them need their owners more which is often an attraction to these breeds as well. When you go off to work in the morning and you leave a dog like this for several hours his restricted airway means he will struggle to do anything that requires more oxygen than just lying still, so that makes them an ideal dog for many.
The comments on YouTube so far are saying how cute and condemning anyone who thinks this is animal abuse. Unfortunately what we are seeing in the video is ignorance, which the end result is suffering for the dog. I'm sure the person who's dog this is loves him dearly, but their ignorance is causing the dog to suffer. There are only two reasons a dog will not want to leave the house to go on a walk. One it has been poorly socialised, so frightened to or two, it has health issues, such as it struggles to breath. If you have a brachycephalic dog like a Bulldog and it does not like going on walks, only goes short distances and sits down, heavily panting, snorting or making rasping sounds, it is not normal, your dog is not lazy, it is struggling to breath and has a restricted airway. You need to tell a vet about it and the dog needs surgery to stop its suffering.
It really makes me sad when I see these dogs suffering and being laughed at, called lazy and thought cute because of the way they are breed disabled by humans. I keep telling myself that the laughter is bore out of ignorance and it is getting the word out there and educating people to what is going on with these dogs. Sometimes though I just want to get the people who breed and own these dogs, and buckle a belt tightly round their neck, just enough to restrict their airway and then put their phone dangling on a piece of string on the end of a stick in front of them and see how far we get, but that would be cruel, wouldn't it?
“The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you,but he will make a fool of himself, too.”
